Well Location: Offshore California, USA.

Operator Challenge:

Operator needed to P&A the well while maintaining all casing strings integrity, pass through the 9 5/8” OD, 43#, 8.755” ID casing then section mill a 25’ window in the 13 3/8” OD, 72#, 12.347” ID casing. When completed burnish clean the ID of the outer 18 5/8” OD, 106#, 17.563” ID casing at 1350’ MD. Operator needed to perform a positive casing test then place an inflatable packer & dump cement for permanent barrier placement. Perform work at 2.5 BPM while eliminating swarf removal.

Dynasty Solution:

  • Run in well with 7.875” OD Predator section mill with Exclusive Adjustable (SEL) Sweep Expansion Limiter capability
  • Pass through the 9 5/8” OD, 43#, 8.755” ID casing
  • Utilize Predator Exclusive (MBS) Modular Blade System to perform 25’ window cutout, section mill & burnish the 13 3/8” OD, 72#, 12.347” ID casing.
  • Utilize Predator (FTJ) FloThru Jetting capability. Circulate or Flow thru Entire Predator ID to assist in swarf / cement removal.
  • Expand Predator applying Exclusive Adjustable (SEL) Sweep Expansion Limiter capability to pass through the 9 5/8” OD, 8.755” ID casing X 13 3/8”, 12.347” ID casing window to burnish clean the ID of the 18 5/8” OD, 106#, 17.563” ID casing while maintaining 18 5/8” OD casing integrity.

Dynasty Results:

  • The Predator section mill passed through the ID of 9 5/8” OD, 8.755” ID casing & milled the 25’ window in the 13 3/8” OD casing.
  • The Predator burnished clean the outer 18 5/8” OD casing 17.563” ID successfully.
  • No Harm was caused to the outer 18 5/8” OD casing.
  • Casing test was performed successfully, packer was set & cement was placed on top for permanent barrier.
  • The Predator Section Mill exceeded operator expectations. High ROP + Low trips = Less rig time = Saved cost
  • Decision was made to allocate Predator section mills on location for future wells.
